Ice Transport Strains continue to be one of the most frequent and costly injury types for crew members across the country. Carrying large buckets of ice is one area where strains can affect a crew member’s back, plus also present injury potential for the arms and shoulder during lifting. The Ice Transport Cart (Franke catalog, page C.15), allows crew members to transport ice in a specifically designed cart so carrying of ice buckets is eliminated. The cart features a cover, to ensure that the ice is not exposed to foreign matter, and three separate chambers that hold about 25 pounds of ice each. This allows employees to more easily lift a container up, but still being able to transport up to 75 pounds of ice. The combination of a wheeled cart, sanitary cover, plus high capacity not only reduces lifting exposure, but also allows crew members to work more quickly, with a higher level of efficiency.
